Now in its 11th year, the Lancaster Science Factory has been remarkably expanding and has plans to keep up the exciting work. The Kalas Foundation joined in their work through supporting the Girls Code Club, a program reaching girls ages 8 – 13 with the opportunity to learn and play in computer coding. Not only does this increase their intelligence of how computers and programming work, it fuels confidence, creativity and curiosity that extends far beyond the club’s walls. Empowering young women is a mission that will impact generations locally and as far as these young women will go in their futures. We are proud to support the work that continues to equip now over 200 girls with technical knowledge and belief in themselves.
The Girls Code Club is just one of nearly countless programs the Lancaster Science Factory now offers. This Summer alone the Factory ran 28 week-long camps with topics including physics, chemistry, science, engineering, rockets, math and much more. They provide STEM (Science Technology Engineering Math) workshops where parents can interact with their kids and learn and produce things together fostering bonding and connection. They have several assistance programs where any school that wants to field trip can come and receive educational programming. They offer free discovery-based programs for 4-6 year olds to explore during their preschool years. Every first Friday is free to visit and one day a year they create a big free festival with exciting demonstrations and extra features. All local scouts’ programs have discounted rates and patch programs to earn badges and homeschoolers can enroll in STEM classes on site. It’s an incredible organization for our community to have. Even just a visit to the Factory elicits excitement, learning, friendship, family bonding and their mission of increasing creativity, confidence and curiosity. Their building has nearly doubled in size offering renovated and fascinating hands-on exhibits.
We stand behind the Lancaster Science Factory in all they do to improve the lives we touch. It’s undeniable the positive impact they are having on our community and we look forward to seeing their work continue to grow. They are just shy of their goal to complete 2 more final stages of their expansion which will include an outdoor solar and storm water exhibit teaching the impact we have on our environment and the fun that can be had by joining the wider community in caring for it as well as an indoor “sky bridge” that can be climbed to the heights of their high ceilings and be energetically explored.
