As a Foundation committed to improving our local communities, we love to learn about how our donations are making an impact. That is why as we send out this quarter’s disbursements we think about the beneficial impacts ahead that will be a result of our contribution. That is also why we were thrilled to learn about how much of a difference our last quarter has already made through the Lancaster Science Factory’s (LSF) Girl’s Code Club.

This fall, LSF launched the Girls Code Club which their website describes as a monthly, facilitated meetup for girls (ages 8-13) to learn computer science concepts and coding applications including how to design their own website, video game, or computer program based on their individual interests.

When contributing to a program that doesn’t exist year, it is hard to know what type of response or impact our donation would have. With the Girls Code Club, we are pleased to learn of it’s overwhelming response from the community. The club had received full registration and is already exciting many groups of young females about the inner workings of coding.

Rob Reed, Development Director at LSF said of the program’s success “These girls will forever have an advantage thanks to all they’re learning about computer science and technology through this program. We can’t wait to expand this to even more girls, as well as a co-ed class, next year. Thank you so much for making this possible.”

With the shockingly large gender gap in STEM careers among females, this program has the potential to make a large impact as current and future generations of young women in our area choose to work in, make improvements on and create inventions that will better our world through technology.

Thank you Lancaster Science Factory for your impacting our community through this new endeavor.
